Join us for a different quilting adventure. Come join and share your knowledge and curiosity about modern quilts. This group is open to all members, will focus on modern quilting, and meets on Zoom
We meet on the first and third Tuesday of the month from 7:00 pm—8:00 pm with a 6:30—7:00 social time.
Purpose: to explore Modern quilting techniques and characteristics. Each month we will explore one of the hall marks of modern quilting with demonstrations or video. Participants will be encouraged to make a quilted block by playing with that technique to show at the next month’s meeting (our Show and Tell). We will record meetings for those who can not make a particular month.
Everyone is invited to join us for our Low Volume Quilt Along sponsored by the Modern Study Group. We will meet on the first Tuesday of each month from September through February to learn how to improv. This is a low volume background challenge, and you can improv a little or a lot depending on your comfort level. You don’t have to join up a head of me, but if you do, we will send you a welcome letter with information and an invite to the Facebook Group. Email, Norene Skiles @[email protected].
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday May 20, 2025
In May we will wrap up our program year that focused on improv quilting and our favorite quilters. The May program will not focus on a single quilter, but on many favorite modern quilters, especially those we follow on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and the web. To date members have suggested: Weeks Ringle, Bill Kerr, Amy Ellis, Susan Cleveland, Karen Brown, Suzy Williams and our own Heather Kojan to name a few. There is still room for more. Please email your favorite quilter to [email protected] as soon as possible.
Join us on May 20th at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom to be inspired by a variety of modern quilters. Our social time starts at 6:30 p.m.
We are planning for the 2025 – 2026 year on May 6th at 7:00 p.m. If you are interested in giving input or helping with the programs, please join us on Zoom.
We will also discuss a possible quilt along on Modern Medallion quilts.

Modern Group Quilt Along
The Modern Group is hosting a Quilt Along on Zoom! Everyone is invited!
We will explore low volume quilts two ways! Quilters who love improv can complete their quilts in an
improvisational way learning to cut without rulers. Those of you who enjoy a more planned quilt will do
the same blocks with a little “safe” improv (including rulers). We will meet on Zoom the first Tuesday of
the month at 7:00 p.m. (the normal Modern Sit and Sew). Each month we will learn or review a
technique and during the month you will need to finish 2 – 3 blocks. We will have a suggested plan for
those who like structure, but everyone should have a unique quilt. The QAL will last 6 months. The size
of the finished quilt will be determined by how many blocks you make.
September will be learning about low volume fabrics. We will also use our “stash” to find our low
volume fabrics and our accent fabrics. (You may also purchase fabric.) Low volume quilts look great
with a variety of fabrics, so for those in the area, we will meet up at each in person chapter meeting for
a low volume fabric exchange. Details for the exchange will be announced at the first QAL meeting.
September: Choosing fabrics.
October: Nine patch stars
November: Flying Geese
December- Insets
January – Assembly, coping strips, and filling in with low volume fabrics.
February – Quilting Solutions
Low Volume Quilt-Along Recordings
Speaking of challenges, if you did not finish, keep working on your Viva Magenta quilt. You can add it in to Show and Tell at any upcoming meeting.
