The TQG Library has about 700 books free to guild members. We want you to look through the books and find a quilt just for you.
Library Challenge 2021
Rules to enter:
The challenge: Create a quilt inspired by a children's book, and show it and tell about it.
The book: the Children's or Young Adult book that you most wish all of your children will have read. Maybe it was the story, or the characters, or the history - maybe for how much you loved it and learned from it. Whether it's "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" or if it's "The Red Badge of Courage" - it's your book and your choice.
The quilt: Small - 1200 to 1600 square inches. Examples: 22 x 55" (a large table runner), or 32 x 48 (a crib quilt), or 40 inches square (lap quilt or wall hanging).
Embellishments of any kind are encouraged: bring on the beads, embroidery, dye, paint and other additions! The finished work need not be all in one piece, nor need it be regular in shape, but it must have a top, a back, and an inner soft layer, all held together by stitching.
The inspiration: this is open to your creativity. a scene from the story, a quilt that might belong in the story, a quotation pieced into a top, or an abstraction of the feelings you had about the book. It's open.
The showing: Show and Tell time at the Chapter meetings, November and December. You can show your entry at more than one meeting, but will be entered for the prize drawing at only one. Tell about the book you chose, and how it inspired your quilt. Each Chapter will award one prize by a drawing.
Our first library challenge ran from May to November in 2019, with patterns and inspiration taken from a book in the Guild library. Forty or fifty books were checked out as a result, and more than a dozen beautiful quilts were shown during Fall's Show and Tell time. Some of the beautiful results can still be seen in the 2019 newsletters, especially Nov 2019.
3 prizes of $25 each
The TQG Library is divided into Red and Blue and Yellow Libraries with the libraries rotating between the three chapters. There are nearly 500 books available to guild members for checking out.

Here is a reminder of Library rules:
- Please try to return books to the correct library (Red books to the Red Library, and Blue books to Blue, and so on). If this isn't feasible, return them to the chapter you attend. As chapter librarians do not usually attend other meetings, this may mean that it takes a while to get returned books back into circulation.
- NEW FOR 2018: Books are checked out for TWO months at a time, and may be renewed on request. You can call or email your librarians or request renewal at the meeting. Note: if another member has requested the book, we may not be able to renew for you.
- Only four books may be checked out by a member at a time.
- A fine of $1 per book for each month overdue can be charged. Lost or damaged books must be replaced.
Several months in the year, Library collections are not brought to meetings. The month before Inventory, normally the July meetings, librarians will collect returns, but don’t check books out. Day and Night chapters have December parties every year, and books aren’t brought. When any chapter is having a rummage sale, or sometimes if a speaker has a big trunk show or a large inventory of merchandise, the Librarian will be asked not to bring the collection.
At any meeting, if a Librarian is present, books can be returned.
A third collection, the Green Library, is not exchanged among the chapters. This collection includes older or fragile items, oversize items and DVDs. Titles can be browsed online or in the Librarian’s notebook, and anything can be checked out by request, allowing time to transfer the item to your chapter.
