January 18 - Zoom only--Improv
Option 1: Think of a color, feeling or word and search for a photo for inspiration. Or use a photo you have.
Option 2: Look for an everyday object or item and interpret it into a quilt.
May want to pick a background fabric to use.
DO NOT MAKE AN EXACT REPRESENTATION.
Remember the block is pieced, layered and quilted, but not bound.
October 19 Meeting
Our October meeting will be all about Creative Design Elements and modern quilting. Join us at 7:00 p.m. on October 19th.
Send in photos of quilts to use for inclusion as samples in the Oct. Program. I am looking for quilts that show any of the following: Line, direction/movement, shape, repetition, or texture. Send them to firstname.lastname@example.org

Option 1: Fusible Applique Play- Choose lines of fabric or shapes of fabric. Cut your fusible up into one or other. Lay them out on the background fabric in one of the alignment grids. Fuse and sew.

Option 3: Take a walk, visit a garden or museum and take photos of something that inspires you. Find a couple of design elements or principles in that photo and make your block. Elements: line, color, texture, direction, balance, size, shape, repetition.
Alternate Grid Quilts
Please send photos of any quilts you have with alternate grids.
Join us for a new quilting adventure. This group is open to all our members and will meet only on Zoom and will focus on modern quilting!
Meeting the third Tuesday of the month from 7:00—8:00 with a 6:30—7:00 social time.
Initially the meetings will last for 7 months, the group may decide to continue after that time.
Purpose: to explore Modern quilting techniques and characteristics. Each month we will explore one of the hall marks of modern quilting with demonstrations or video. Participants will be encourages to make a quilted block by playing with that technique to show at the next month’s meeting (our Show and Tell). We will record meetings for those who can not make a particular month.
September 21—What is modern quilting ? Introduction to the rest of the meetings and how we will work. Bold colors will be introduced as the first characteristics to work with on our challenge block.
October 19— Bold color show and tell, and learn about Minimalism and negative space.
November 16— Minimalism/negative space show and tell and learn about alternative grid work.
We will progress from there covering: improve piecing, high contrast quilts and modern traditionalism.
December 21 - Improv
