From February 21 – 24, over 550 modern quilts will be on display at this year’s QuiltCon event in Nashville, Tennessee. This year, Vera Bradley is a Platinum Sponsor serving as a panelist for QuiltCon’s Best in Show award and presenting this accolade to the winner.

This is Sybil Magrill’s Vera Bradley Quilt Triangle Frenzy Evolution. Her awesome sister Carly asked her to make a quilt for the Vera Bradley exhibit and her other awesome sister Heather Hanscak helped her execute her vision while Sybil is deployed in Iraq.

Sybil was inspired by the modern quilts with the minimal piecing and dense quilting that creates the cool background effect. She took Bunnie Cleland’s triangle Frenzy technique and arranged it in a way “evolving” it into this modern interpretation. They wound up collaborating at the end to make it work. Then the ever-inspired Pam Bowen of Quilted Seahorse brought it to life with her bubbles and quilted hexagons.

President's Message:

Hello again, so far the weather has treated us kindly this year and we have managed to hold all our January meetings (for the first time in several years), plus an excellent workshop from Heather Kojan. I went along a little skeptical as I was not a fan of Flying Geese, however, after just one hour in Heather’s company I was a convert and even completed the quilt from the workshop within a week - a never before achieved accomplishment. Thank you to Linda Reynolds for arranging such a great workshop.

2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the formation of Tidewater Quilt Guild - we are planning to celebrate on June 22 when the Virginia Quilt Museum and Cheryl See will both be presenting to a one day symposium, which will also include a celebratory buffet lunch. The event is still in the planning stages but watch this space for more information.

Millie Johnson has kindly agreed to take over the Raffle Quilt Chair and is busily putting together a roster to sell raffle tickets at Mancuso (February 28 - March 3) this year - if you haven’t yet volunteered and can spare a couple of hours please contact her, I know she will be grateful for all the volunteers she can get.

Don’t forget to check out the Spring Fling special edition newsletter for details of all the workshops being offered at this year’s Fling.

Join your fellow quilters at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Show.  Volunteers are needed to sell raffle quilt tickets and white glove. Please contact Millie Johnson to volunteer.

The collaboration was fun, seeing how someone else interprets my Triangle Frenzy, and sewing some if it myself!
Now I just have to write the pattern for this Evolution!
